This is a signature sound of the brilliant Julio Bashmore. It could be created using an 808 kick drum, but I have set about recreating it in Ableton with the 'Analog' Synth and some Compression.
It is an Instrument Rack. Please Download the attachment above.
Following a request, I'm also attaching a midi file of the bassline (Bashmore_Bassline.mid)

This is a recreation of the classic sound used in Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five's 'The Message'.
I used 'Analog' combined with a Ping Pong Delay in Ableton Live, and have grouped them as a Rack.
